Top 3 Historic Restaurants in the SCV

The Original Saugus Cafe

The history of this little cafe started in 1886, making it the very first restaurant in LA County! It was a popular place for train passengers to grab a bite on their journey between LA and San Francisco.

Today, the cafe may look like just an ordinary cafe but it has served everyone from movie stars to presidents like President Benjamin Harrison and President Theodore Roosevelt.

Eighth & Rail

Did you know that the very first bar in LA County happens to be right here in Santa Clarita?

Eighth & Rail started as Derrick’s Saloon in 1878 and remains a local favorite more than 140 years later.

I love that they maintained the look and feel of a classic saloon but with a modern twist on their menu. Their claim to fame here are their paninis using naan bread and if you love cheese, you’ve got to try their Triple Threat which to me was like a grown-up grilled cheese with black fig jam and garlic spread. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to see cookies on the menu – these are twice baked and served fresh out of the oven.

Come by for their food & drinks, stay for the games and music and enjoy this little piece of history on the corner of Eighth St & Railroad Ave.

Halfway House Cafe

This cafe in Santa Clarita has been used in tons of Movies and TV shows. 116 years ago, they got their start as a trading post. It was ideal because it is halfway between Los Angeles and the Antelope Valley, hence the name. In 1931, it became a cafe and it’s history and uniqueness has made it a popular spot for use in movies, tv shows, and commercials. You may recognize it from Top Gun: Maverick after his jet crashes!

I felt like I was transported to a different time and place as the cafe maintained it’s classic look and feel and homestyle cooking.

Come by for classic breakfast and lunch meals and enjoy this historical cafe halfway from LA.
